Top 5 Places to Visit in NYC During the Fall Season

As a born and raised NYC girl, visiting the city in the cooler seasons is a dream. It isn’t too warm where you are sweating walking 2 steps, and it’s not too cold where you have to bundle up like an Eskimo. Haveing the cool, crispy, autumn air is great in New York.

Here are my top 5 places to visit this fall season!

CENTRAL PARK

There is more to Central Park than you think - I know, I know, so clique. But Central Park is huge and there are probably places you haven’t visited in it! Everyone knows Central Park where you enter by the Columbus circle/59th street area, but there is more if you travel up a little more north. The views, in my opinion, are definitely better and there is also not nearly as many people.

In the 70s, there is a restaurant called The Boat House. It’s a quaint American-style restaurant with a beautiful view that overlooks the lake inside the park. It’s a great place to have lunch. Bonus, after you can rent a little boat to ride on the lake yourself!

MUSEUMS

There are a few museums on the Upper East Side, along Central Park that are worth going to as well! Right up the road from the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the Guggenheim Museum. The Guggenheim houses modern, intricate art along with a beautiful skylight taking up the entire ceiling which allows all the natural light to come in.

The Frick Collection, south of the Guggenheim located on East 70th street is the total opposite of the Guggenheim. The Frick Collection, located in a preserved mansion, is the home of European art. Ranging from paintings to sculptures, it showcases the architecture of the Gilded Age beautifully. There is a private garden in the middle that is need to check out. Conveniently, the museum is also located right across the street from the Boat House mentioned earlier before! You can grab a nice lunch or dinner the same day.

GARDENS/ZOOS

The Botcanical Gardens are personally by favorite. There is the New York Botanical Garden located in the Bronx and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden located in Prospect Park. Both are beautiful gardens, but the New York Botanical Garden is much bigger if you are looking to spend a whole day there. The gardens also host limited edition exhibits throughout the year that you can check out.

The Bronx Zoo is the last place on this list. Encompassing almost 300 acres of land and housing over 10,000 animals, you will see almost every animal possible. Make sure you have your walking shoes on. This zoo is so big it might take you a couple of trips to get through it all! The best part of this zoo is that they genuinely care about their animals. They are constantly attending to all the animals’ needs. Like the gardens, the also have limited edition exhibits that you can see special animals.

Secret tip…check the places’ website for deals! If you are a student, or have a NYC library card, you can get into some of these places for free on certain days.
